Journals/Diaries

Good morning, 40CWRL students,

Now that we have watched half of "Freedom Writers," we can begin to see how Ms. Gruwell (Erin), is encouraging her students to write. What do you think about the idea of using journals as a kind of diary for her students to express what they feel? Do you think it's a good idea or a bad idea? Why? Do you think I should use journals when I teach this class next term? Why or why not?

  1. Hello:

Well,I think in the movie, she use journal is a good idea. Because Ms. Gruwell has many difficult to instructional students, she use journal can help she to knew more about her students then she will be easy to communication with them. And I think you don't need to use this method in our class because we are all good student.

  2. Hello,

I think that Ms. Gruwell (Erin) in movie uses journals as a kind of diaries is absolutely a good idea. First of all, the most students have their difficult lives. They witness a lot of dead and they usually lose their family and friends. The teacher uses journals to give her students a chance to release their emotions. Besides, she can also know her students more so that she could find some ways to help them. As for our class, I think it is unnecessary because we can have more direct ways like communicating face to face.

  3. Hi!

I think is an excellent idea in the movie, because Ms. Erin tried to communicate with her students and didn’t get any result. So when the students began to write in the journals, they were more open about their feelings and she could understand their behavior. Journals or diaries can help people with severe communication problems. In regular class, I don’t think it necessary. We have a good and open communication.

  4. Hi!
I think she was facing many of the troubles at begin of work in this school. Because it has is a bad student. They students had problems in their lives in the past. For example, they had problems in their families or with friends or other persons. Because she used to solve, I think it is true. She demanded for to write the story of live in the past. She did do that because you know for their lives in the past and why students are bad. Also she solves their problems.

I think that application of are good students not be correct.

  6. Hello there!

We watched a good move about the bad student and how to know about them. so, Ms. Gruwell has good idea to do with her students. I think she did good adea when she gave her students the journals and she want to know about their feeling and thinking. so, she wants from the student write everything about there life or somethings like that.
I think if you teach student like these bad students you should do it,because you must know about the student and what can you do for them.

  7. I think that Ms.Erin in movie uses the best way to let them think about what they are dowing is wrongh she use such as, journals diaries, the game and the books. First, the most students have their difficult is Eva because the white people take her father to the jail.Erin work hard to let her student start from the bigning. In instance, Erin did that so she can help them from what they are dowing. In the end of the movie Erin will get devors because she dont give her husband his full rights and he is taird from that.

  8. I belive that. Ms.Erin used the deal idea with her student. Her way was keep the studens' privacy and expression at the same time. I think you should use this idea with this class. Because always the pepole prefer to talk and complaine individually about their own affairs.
